One
of the major advantages of linking three Victorian terrace houses is that
the guest rooms are all generously proportioned with high ceilings and
solid walls. Now beautifully decorated in what the owners refer to as restrained
'African Renaissance' style, all rooms are en suite with king size beds
(or twins if you prefer) dressed in the softest, white cotton percale linen.
Each is decorated individually with African artefacts, funky lighting and
careful application of colours ranging from subtle creams to warm reds.
We
will adopt new room class names as from September 2009:
The‘Platinum’class
rooms are upstairs and have balconies. They have full bathrooms –
with bath and separate shower and toilet en suite. Two towards the
rear of the house have ‘step-out’ balconies overhanging the courtyard which
allow for lovely views of Table Mountain.
The
three remaining ‘Platinum’ class rooms have enormous balconies which
are really more like outdoor rooms in summer. They have wonderfully
romantic four poster-like beds with canopies and are the largest rooms
in the house. Despite this they remain eminently affordable.
The‘Gold’class
rooms
are a new introduction. They are the two rooms without balcony but with
bath as well as shower. They face the courtyard and offer glimpses
of Table Mountain. One has a shower OVER a bath while the other has a very
generous full bathroom with separate bath and shower.
There
are four ‘Silver’
class rooms which
are all en suite with shower, toilet and 2 basins. They are quiet rooms
which face away from the street. Three are upstairs and one is downstairs
with direct access to the courtyard.
The
two ‘Bronze’
Class rooms are large
and very comfortable. They have en suite shower rooms with basin and toilet.
They face the street which is very quiet.
All
rooms have telephone, television with satellite connection, security box,
hair dryer, tea/coffee station and allow for Wi-Fi connection of a laptop.
All rooms have air conditioning.
A hearty
farmhouse breakfast is on offer in the large dining room or out in the
courtyard, with help-yourself juices, freshly made fruit salad, cereals,
yoghurts, cheese and variations on a theme of muffins, scones, croissants
and home-made cakes.
These
are followed by a cooked English-style breakfast which includes a
choice of eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomato, hash browns, and surprises
such as smoked salmon, tomato tart or pancakes and syrup.
No
other meals are served but there are dozens of excellent restaurants within
walking distance - trendy Kloof street is a 5-minute stroll.
Limited
kitchen facilities are available for guest's use – for those evenings when
a sandwich or salad and glass of wine at home are more inviting.
Sherry,
port, tea and coffee are complimentary. A range of other drinks is available
from the honesty bar in the kitchen. You're also welcome to bring
your own drinks and keep them in a guest fridge.
